WHAT IF?

The United States Department of Energy has a goal of carbon neutral aviation by 2050. The airline industry has pledged to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050. The United Nations International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) made up of 184 nations has a similar goal.

  • What if there was an aircraft that could provide net zero carbon emissions by 2030?
  • What if there was an aircraft that could eliminate the need for fuel, saving airlines hundreds of millions of dollars annually?
  • What if there was an aircraft that produced its own power while in flight or on the ground?
  • What if there was an aircraft that could safely operate above the jet stream, eliminating most effects of weather?
  • What if there was an aircraft that could take off and land almost anywhere, even on water?
Our Technology

Air Buoyant Vessels – Vacuum Vessels – Solidaire Chambers

Different terms for the same thing and they all amount to NOTHING!
“Nothing” (i.e. vacuum) is less expensive than helium.
“Nothing” (i.e. vacuum) is more abundant than helium.
“Nothing” (i.e. vacuum) is lighter weight than helium.
“Nothing” (i.e. vacuum) in easier to transport than compressed gas cylinders of helium.

Vacuum Vessels

Replacing helium or hydrogen with vacuum for the lift of the aircraft allows a more aerodynamic design and gives the Skyliner the capability of increased speeds and maneuverability. Developed at Los Alamos National Laboratory, these vacuum vessels use aerogels for containment and are being tested to determine the maximum size and variations of shapes that can be used in the Skyliner aircraft.

Solar Power

The upper surface of the Skyliner is covered with multi-junction photovoltaic cells which will offer direct power to the aircraft’s propulsion system, with a portion providing continuous charge to backup batteries for power when solar is not available. Our search continues for a combination of the greatest percentage of efficiency with the lightest weight possible. This technology is advancing so rapidly that a final choice will not be made until we begin begin production of the prototype.

Electric Jet Motors

Currently under development, Skyliners will utilize electric jet motors for propulsion. This will give the Skyliner the capability to operate above the jet stream allowing greater speed and reduced effects of weather.
